How to Make Money Selling Info Products

There’s no denying it, info products are hot. Lots of the books on Kindle are info products (near enough anything that isn’t fiction). You could also argue that many YouTube videos are info products – all the tutorials that show you how to do anything from how to tie a tie through to finding your way round software and many other things. Then there’s the full-scale info products that teach you something start to finish that are sold near enough everywhere on the web.

Most of those are monetised. Even the “free” YouTube videos have adverts and the more astute video channel owners will have enabled adverts and should be getting a share of the advertising revenue. Many will also link off to other places where they stand a chance of getting a commission when a bigger version of the info product is sold.

What does this mean for you?

It means that there are a multitude of different ways to make money selling info products online!

Your long term goal should be to have your own product. That way you stand to get sales via affiliates as well as ones you generate yourself. And it doesn’t take long to create a product of your own – many products are now “walk through” videos and audios which take as little as an hour or two to create. These then often lead on to bigger, more complicated products that go into more depth and have bigger price tags.

But short term you can promote products created by other people. Sign up for the various affiliate programs (Amazon call their affiliates “associates”, other sites call them partners but it means the same thing). Depending on the program, you may be approved instantly or it may take a bit longer. You’ll then get a specially coded link that will track any leads or sales that you’ve generated.

And, actually, that sentence hides a big secret of making money selling info products.

Quite a lot of companies on the web will pay you for every qualified lead that you send them. Often they’re the same kind of company that you see advertising on day-time television – what’s known in the industry as “direct response” – and they know that, on average, every lead they get is worth more than the money they pay the person generating it. But from your point of view, it’s usually easier to generate a lead than it is to generate a sale.
